SHEPHERD TO SHEPHERD:
PASTOR VISIT DAYS
AT THE CAPITOL

2025 LEGISLATIVE SESSION  |  AUSTIN, TEXAS

Imagine the impact of hundreds of pastors – the shepherds of the Church – representing the denominational, regional, and demographic diversity of the evangelical church in Texas, coming together to minister to the shepherds of our state government. If you are a pastor in Texas, you do not want to miss this unique opportunity!

iNSPIRING THE CHURCH

In Romans 13:1-7 we read that God established the institution of government for our good, that He sovereignly places each leader in that government, and we are to honor, respect and obey them. We also see throughout God’s word that He calls His spiritual shepherds to come alongside the ministers/shepherds of government to provide His vision and direction. Examples include Joseph to Pharoah, Jethro to Moses, Daniel to four emperors in two kingdoms, Nathan to David, and so many more.

The Church Ambassador Network’s mission is to inspire the Church to engage government for the advance of God’s Kingdom. We do that by facilitating relationships between governing officials and the shepherds of the Church. Our desire is to advance God’s kingdom by sharing the Gospel of Jesus, and to promote good governance that honors Biblical principles and benefits the entire state.

Every election there is some turnover in the Texas Legislature.  Many pastors also live in a different district than the location of their church. If you would like to get to know your Representative and Senator, please use this helpful tool.

WHAT PASTORS ARE SAYING

"It was such a joy to partner with Church Ambassador Network at the State Capitol, and have the opportunity to be in the offices of a number of Senators, Representatives and other officials.  I was encouraged by the ready acceptance of our visits by all of these people – genuinely appreciative of both our prayers for them and the beautiful Bibles we presented them. It truly was a blessing!"

WHAT A DAY AT THE CAPITOL LOOKS LIKE

Coming to the Texas Capitol with the Church Ambassador Network is like taking a one-day mission trip.

HOW YOU CAN PREPARE

  • Dress for the Capitol: Business dress (suit/tie) is the typical dress code.

  • Bring a hard copy of the Bible: Even if you preach using a digital copy, please bring a paper Bible with you when you visit the Capitol.

  • Come expecting to see God at work in the Texas Capitol.

  • Arrive ready to share the gospel, and prepared to see governing officials impacted by the Word and the love of the Church demonstrated by your ministry to them.

WHAT TO EXPECT FROM CAN-TX STAFF

  • We will prepare ahead of time for your visit, and will have set meetings with governing officials for you to attend.

  • We will attend the visits with you, help to make introductions, and to coach along the way.

MORNING ARRIVAL

  • Texas State Capitol, 1100 Congress Ave., Austin, TX  78701

  • The exact start time tends to vary and is largely dependant on 1) how far you and other pastors are traveling, and 2) when the Legislative Members are available.  We have started as early as 8:00 AM, but often we don't start until 8:30 AM or 9:00 AM.

GATHER AT THE CAPITOL CHAPEL

  • The day begins with prayer and a brief orientation in the Capitol Chapel located on the 4th floor in room 4W.1.  You can download the Capitol map here.

  • We work with each group of pastors to set a start time that maximizes the opportunities to meet with governing officials.

  • Unless you come to the Capitol as a part of a group, you will be partnered with other pastors so that we have groups of 2 to 4 pastors for each CAN-TX staffer.

A.M. MEETINGS WITH LEGISLATORS

  • Meetings will be held throughout the day.

  • While our team works diligently to set a schedule for the day, please come prepared for changes with little notice – our schedule is directly impacted by the legislative schedule.

BREAK FOR LUNCH

  • Due to the varied times for meetings with legislators, we typically break for lunch "on our own" at the Capitol in the Capitol Grill. You can download the menu HERE.

P.M. MEETINGS WITH LEGISLATORS

  • We plan for the last meeting of the day to be done by 3:30, so everyone can get on the road before the worst of the traffic.

  • NOTE: Because the legislative schedule impacts our meeting schedule, we do sometimes end up running a little later into the afternoon.
